You’ve Posted A Great TikTok Video. How Do You Promote It?

It’s a rewarding feeling to work long and hard on TikTok content, know you have created a terrific video, and hit the “Post” button.

The elation quickly turns to disappointment, though, when your video gets very few views and almost no engagement.

That’s not unusual. Nearly 25 million new posts are uploaded to the social media platform every day, so even the most compelling TikTok posts are unlikely to receive much exposure unless they’re from one of the app’s most popular accounts. (The TikTok algorithms allocate the most visibility to videos created by users with huge TikTok presences.)

Many TikTok content creators have found that promoting their posts can get them over the hump and bring in new viewers, boost their engagement rates and follower counts, and occasionally send one of their videos viral.

Sound interesting? There are two categories of TikTok promotion you can try.

Free Promotion for TikTok Videos

It’s important to understand that no promotion method is guaranteed to work, and that you’re unlikely to see results if you haven’t created compelling, high-quality content.

Generally speaking, though, these free promotion techniques produce relatively small gains in engagement and bring in only a few new followers at a time. They should be expected to deliver slow, incremental TikTok growth.

  1. Use trending topics in your videos and include trending hashtags in your posts. They can bring in new viewers through the TikTok search function and make the videos more likely to appear on the For You page.
  2. Promote your videos on your other social media accounts and websites (when allowed). Attracting followers or fans from outside sources can boost viewership for your content.
  3. Find influencers and popular users who focus on the same subject(s) that you do. Regularly leaving smart, intriguing comments on their posts can get their followers to check out your videos, too.
  4. Try to convince those influencers and popular users to collaborate with you on content creation. The exposure you could receive can dramatically boost the reach of your videos and TikTok account.
  5. Run giveaways, awarding prizes for the best user-generated content (UGC). You’ll earn new visibility for all of your videos when the winners post their videos and credit you.
  6. Use TikTok analytics to find out who’s been watching your content, allowing you to fine-tune your production approach and attract more viewers in the same demographic groups. You can also see which hashtags work best to bring in new visitors.

Paid Promotion for TikTok Videos

TikTok offers several in-app paid promotion features. They’re designed to attract larger audiences for videos and can be accessed by TikTok users who have certain types of accounts (creator or business accounts for the first option, business and Ad Manager accounts for the second).

  • TikTok Promote: You’ve probably seen the “Promote” button on the app; it appears after you’ve created a new video. It increases the audience for your selected post, and you can choose whether you want to boost views, visits, followers, or profile views. You can also set demographic targets for the people who will see your promoted video.
  • Spark Ads: The videos used in these “native” ads show up in TikTok feeds just like regular posts, and they let advertisers link directly to the creator’s chosen landing page (the user’s TikTok profile or an outside website, for example).

Since these are both paid options, you have to set a budget for how much you want to spend and choose the desired length of the campaign. You can spend as little as $3 or as much as $7,000 to use TikTok Promote; Spark Ads are more expensive. Both types of promotion will have a “promoted” or “sponsored” tag when they appear.

Those who’ve tried these methods say they’re likely to work best when promoting high-quality, successful posts that have already built high levels of engagement, rather than brand-new videos without substantial numbers of views and watch time.

There’s one more paid promotion method that doesn’t involve paying TikTok for exposure: purchasing TikTok followers, likes, and/or views. iDigic’s real interactions convince the system’s algorithms to boost exposure for an account’s content, opening the door for rapid and powerful organic growth.

Spicy TikTok: It’s Probably Not What You Think
